The Role Of Foreign Medical Teams In Sudden Onset Disasters

Duration of Award  4 years

Nature of Award  £15,000 per annum (tuition fees will be deducted annually, with the remaining amount given as a maintenance grant to candidate). Please note, overseas applicants will also be considered for the HCRI overseas bursary of £7300 per annum

Research Project  The Humanitarian & Conflict Response Institute (HCRI) in partnership with the University Hospital of South Manchester (UHSM) invite applications for a four year PhD studentship to conduct research on issues related to the role of foreign medical teams in sudden onset disasters

The selected candidate will also engage in research informed teaching of undergraduate medical students, using their expertise to engage students in a variety of issues related to global health and/or emergency humanitarian assistance.

Applicants for the studentship should hold or be expecting a First Class degree award, and/or a Distinction in a related Masters degree. Applicants who hold a good 2:1 in their first degree will be considered on merit. Applicants should include full details of any teaching experience or areas of expertise on their application form. Applications should include a 1,000 word research statement detailing the research they plan to conduct in reference to the project area.  A minimum of 2 letters of reference must also be received by the deadline.
